Environmental Studies in Tanzania
Academics
The University of Tanzania is one of Africa's leading research institutions in the field of Environmental Studies. Although the University itself is located in the middle of a large city, students will take frequent trips to locations outside of the city including Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, Gombe National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater.
Students will be graded on class attendance, participation in class, mid-term exams and one final research paper on the topic of their choice. All classes are taught in English and students can go for a summer, Fall or Spring semester, or an entire academic year.
Location and Housing
The United Republic of Tanzania is located in Africa and is boarded by Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Tanzania has a great variety of geography and is taking huge efforts to help the endangered species that live in the area, including the Grey-Faced Sengi and the Lesser Flamingo.
The University of Tanzania is located in the country's largest city, Dar es Salaam. This was the nation's first university and is situated in the heart of the city. Student's will live in shared campus housing. Students can chose to live in a single room or have a roommate.
Dar es Salaam is similar to other large African cities and students are encouraged to take safety precautions while walking around town.
